We have more volunteers working for us than we do paid staff and without the amazing dedication and energy brought about by volunteers, we would not be able to offer the services that we do.
Appreciation of volunteers
Staff and service users feedback on the value brought to services by volunteers.
Dave Feast, Welfare Benefits Caseworker
"Bernard has been volunteering with the Welfare Benefits Service at BLG Mind for one day a week for more than 8 years. His role is to represent clients with mental health problems at Tribunal following refusal of various social security benefits and he has successfully overturned scores of decision during this time. Bernard’s in depth knowledge of complex benefit issues, his understanding of mental health problems and his calm, friendly approach to the work is invaluable to our service. Even during the current pandemic, Bernard has represented his clients at telephone appeal hearings. We are extremely appreciative of the support Bernard provides and sure all our clients and colleagues agree that his support is extremely valued."

BLG Mind has contributed to my recovery and has provided me with different learning opportunities at Greenwich as a volunteer. Staff are very supportive, encouraging and care about our wellbeing. My journey has been very positive and invigorating. I can proudly say that I am now working at Bromley Mind as a Recovery Support Advisor. BLG Mind has understood my needs and has contributed to my development personally and professionally. I am so grateful for being part of an organisation that is very ethical, diverse and compassionate towards their service users and employees.
I originally discovered Mindful Mums through my local Children and Family Centre. I attended the course as a mum who felt very isolated and found a lovely group of women who felt exactly the same. The sense of belonging and knowing that I was not alone in how I was feeling helped me beyond words. So much so that I wanted to volunteer to facilitate a group myself as I wanted to try and give other mums the support and reassurance that I received. I completed the Mindful Mums training, which gave me all of the tools to help facilitate. Facilitating a group is one of the best experiences I’ve had. Seeing all of the mums that attended come together to share their own experiences and gain so much from each other is a very happy and humbling experience. I am very much looking forward to continuing to work as a volunteer and offer as much support to other new mums as I received.April Brown, Mindful Mums Volunteer Facilitator
