Staff from two of BLG Mind’s corporate sponsors, Grant Saw and Synapri, donned their walking gear for a wintery hike across London in aid of our services in January.
Greenwich-based law firm Grant Saw, who have made us their Charity of the Year for two years in a row now, tackled the 13-mile route on Saturday 29 January, while Bromley-based technology recruitment firm Synapri, who chose us as their Charity of the Year for 2021/22, took on the same challenge the following day.
The half-marathon hike, organised by Ultra Challenge, saw both teams start and finish at the Oval Cricket Ground in Kennington.
Eleven Grant Saw colleagues joined the sponsored hike. Marketing and Business Development Manager Michael Tobin said: “I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Winter Walk. The Grant Saw team were very supportive, and it was a real pleasure embarking on and completing the challenge with a fantastic group of people.
“Walking 13 miles is no mean feat and I was thrilled to get to the finish line, raising money for a wonderful charity”.
Seven members of the Synapri team tackled the same walk the next day. Sophia Burke, Marketing Manager for Synapri, said: “Being outside and taking part in something we know will help others was great, and having clear blue skies and plenty of sunshine was a bonus. Plus, completing the challenge and seeing our fundraising total creep up was an incredible feeling.”
Explaining why Synapri had chosen BLG Mind as its Charity of the Year, Sophia said: “As a team we decided that BLG Mind was a great fit. The pandemic has had such a big impact on people’s mental health and whilst people are becoming more aware of it, we thought there was more that could be done to raise awareness and help lift the stigma which can often be associated with it. We also wanted to encourage our own team to be more aware of what can be done to support mental health within the workplace.”
Charlotte Fletcher, Head of Development for BLG Mind, said: “We couldn’t be more grateful to both Grant Saw and Synapri for their fantastic fundraising efforts. The money the teams raised will go directly to supporting our vital services for local people living with mental health issues and dementia.”
There’s still time to support the teams.
