David Powell, a staff member at Bromley Recovery Works, took the plunge recently to raise funds for BLG Mind.
The Senior Recovery Coordinator swam 25km as part of Swimathon, the world’s largest annual fundraising swim.
David finished the event third fastest in his age group and the eighth fastest male, and attained 19th place overall out of 139 swimmers.
He participated in Swimathon to raise money for BLG Mind; in particular Bromley Recovery Works, which has experienced a huge surge in referrals due to the pandemic.
David said: “For completing the challenge: what luck and contentment! How precious to witness open hearts, kind messages and generosity – those believing in and giving their tangible commitment to Recovery Works, colleagues and volunteers.”
With no plans to take a break from the water following his achievement, the keen swimmer has recently been enjoying early morning dips in a spring-fed lido near his home.
