At BLG Mind we are constantly in awe of the amazing volunteers we get to work with who give up their time and energy to support other people in the community.
For many, 2020 was an especially difficult year, but despite personal challenges our volunteers soldiered on and helped keep our services going.
One section of society that came under particular strain during lockdown was new mums, many of whom felt increasingly isolated. The Mindful Mums Befriending service in Bromley proved a lifeline, with our volunteer befrienders continuing to provide much needed support remotely (and, where possible, through walks in the park), often managing to do so while also parenting their own young children.
Three of our Mindful Mums befrienders have now been nominated for Mayor of London Volunteering Awards in recognition of their brilliant work both before and during the pandemic: congratulations to Catherine Maylin, Laura Corrigan and Tuginder Kaur.
