A flooring company replaced a flood-damaged carpet at the MindCare Dementia Support centre in Orpington for free after hearing about it through a COVID-19 support group.
Sam Howes of S & M Flooring in Bromley stepped up to help after a member of the Covid Mutual Aid Beckenham Facebook group got in touch with him.
The group’s co-founder, Felicity Stephenson, had discovered the centre desperately needed new carpet after speaking to Dementia Services Manager Saira Addison.
Felicity said: “We were helping an elderly lady who had dementia with food, but I also contacted Saira and the team for further support. They were incredibly helpful and got her referred to social services straight away.
“From this, Saira and I kept in touch, so when I heard she needed some support re-flooring the office floor which had been damaged following recent flooding, I was quick to send the request out to our volunteers on the group.”
Felicity added: “Sam, a very generous local, got in touch. He let Saira and the team know not only could he do the job, he could do it all for free including the floor.”
Saira said: “Sam just got on with the job and before you could blink it was sorted – and all a donation!”
