Glynis Akers and John Alford received awards at from the Mayor of Royal Borough of Greenwich, Councillor Mick Hayes, at the Volunteer Centre Greenwich Recognition Awards in June 2019.
Glynis began volunteering for Greenwich Mind in 2012 and has been a dedicated member of the team since. Her commitment meant that she helped to support many of our clients through the merger to become Bromley, Lewisham & Greenwich Mind in 2018. Her roles have been many: a Peer Support Volunteer at drop-in sessions; a leader of the Diabetes support group; Reception Volunteer and has provided support with form filling. We are continually grateful for her enthusiasm and continued support.
John started volunteering with Greenwich Mind in 2015, and we were delighted that he continued volunteering after the merger to become Bromley, Lewisham & Greenwich Mind. As an extremely reliable volunteer, John has supported both the telephone counselling line, Mindline, and drop-in sessions. John has a wonderful calming influence on people around him – a great listener who makes a very positive impact on the people he supports. We really appreciate his commitment to people who use our Greenwich mental health services.
