Bernard Schwenk was awarded the Make It Happen Award at the Community Links Bromley Volunteer Awards earlier this year.
Bernard has volunteered at BLG Mind for 7 years representing people in Bromley borough living with mental health problems at Social Security Appeal Tribunals. He has provided specialist expertise in a complex area of law for vulnerable people, keeping abreast of complex changes in a calm and committed way.
Over the years, Bernard has gone above and beyond in his role and been instrumental in many successful cases. He is well known to BLG Mind service users and staff and has been extremely reliable and approachable with everyone he comes into contact with.
“Voluntary work is important for me as it gives me a sense of fulfillment,” said Bernard. “I wanted to put the years’ experience I had to good use. There is an unfulfilled need for assistance for people with mental health issues which I feel I can help to address.”
